Since relocating from Texas in 2009, Clayton King has been a prolific performer on several Columbia and Midlands stages in musical productions and straight plays. With over 75 credits to his name, he has also appeared in productions with Broadway Bound Vista Theatre Project, Chapin Community Theatre, Town Theatre, Trustus, Village Square, Workshop Theatre, and the Midlands Light Opera Society. Some credits include Secret Garden (Neville), Pirates of Penzance (Major General Stanley), Shrek (Shrek), Into the Woods (Baker), She Loves Me! (Mr. Maraczek), Mamma Mia! (Harry Bright), Arsenic and Old Lace (Teddy), You Can’t Take It With You (Kohlenkov), The Addams Family (Gomez), Guys & Dolls (Nathan Detroit). Prior to moving to Columbia, notable roles included Billy Flynn (Chicago) and Mr. Applegate (Damn Yankees) in Galveston and Houston, Texas. Clayton is thrilled to be one of the actors involved with the upcoming Jasper Project Play Series, Busted Open.
In addition to character roles on stage, Clayton is a prolific cabaret performer, having performed in venues along the Texas Gulf (of Mexico!) coast and later across the Midlands. To date, his favorite cabaret spot is the unlikely named “Million Dollar Dump” in Houston. In 2018, he began producing small-venue live performances in Columbia with his singing partner, Vicky Saye [Henderson], under the moniker King|Henderson. The current King|Henderson offering is The Monthly After Dinner Cabaret which runs at the Columbia Music Festival Association.
