Lanny Spires
LANNY SPIRES is a native of Lexington, South Carolina, and is definitely not a stranger to the stage. He began his theatre training under the tutelage of the late George Boozer, where he learned very quickly that musical theatre was more than just singing and acting; it was also DANCE, thus beginning his love affair with ballet. He began his ballet training at Columbia Ballet School under the direction of Anita Ashley and Mimi Worrell at the age of 13 and then under the direction of Ann Brodie with Calvert-Brodie Dance School. While attending the Boston Ballet Summer Intensive, he was awarded a full scholarship to train under Elizabeth Musgrave-Rising and Samuel Kurkjian at Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts. At Walnut Hill School, he fell back in love with musical theatre and decided to make the move to New York City.
While in New York, Lanny attended Professional Performing Arts School, where he studied both musical theatre and dance. Lanny is an affirmed song and dance man who has toured with the Broadway productions of Cats, Man of LaMancha, and Annie Get Your Gun. He also spent several years working as one of the lead singers aboard Celebrity Cruiselines.
Since his return home, Lanny has been seen as Rum Tum Tugger (Cats), Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors), Ren McKormick (Footloose), Angel (Rent), and Kodaly (She Loves Me!). Most recently, Lanny portrayed Larry (Boys in the Band).
